I am agonizing over a tractor purchase and with finances limited want to be sure I am getting good deal
A new 790 - $10950 with FEL - 2750 - total is 13700
How does this sound - what disadvantages would it have - I am going to put a brushhog on - small one and just use loader for misc work and playing around - have about 5 acres that is overgrown with weeds and some multi flora rose

This tractor package goes for $13,900 around here. That's with ag tires. Upgrade to turfs or R4's and the price goes up.

Hi csnake
That sounds like a good deal. In central FL. a 2001 JD790, FWD
sale price was 12000 + 2300 for a fel. I got a 2000 mdl. with FEL,345 hours and a new 5' brushcutter for 12000. I have been very pleased with its performance. The Fel has saved me lots of work and I have used it more than the mower. Good luck JOHN ....

Been running over the same problem. I was quoted 16000 with FEL and MMM 60in.but the lift of the 3 pt hitch worries me. You have to go down to the 18hp tractor and they still have more lift. check the tc 30 also come in Hydro if it matters ....

"Is Deere still making this model? or is this left over from before the days of the 4000 series?"

Per the Deere website and the local dealer, the 790 is being built currently, along with the 4xxx series machines.

Seeing as New Holland just started building an equivalent machine (TC30), looks like the 790 is a competitive model.

My dealer says they sell fairly well...

Yes the 790 is a current model. And the FEL would be a 70 model.

We have sold lot's of these, and have had very satisfied customers. They are a bare bones nuttin' fancy good quality tractor.

The only drawback that I see with them is the 70 loader. It just will not lift as much as a 420. I mounts and dismounts eaiy enough, and mechanical problems have been few. If you are just wnating to do some light loadr work..the 70 will be just fine......if you feel that you're going to do some serious dirt work, you may not be as happy with it. ....

I have a JD 790 w/MMM in excellent condition, under 300 hours, purchased in 9/99. I would like to sell it for $10,000 and put that towards a new 4310. ....
